351,915 people applied for asylum in Germany last year – one and a half times more than in 2022. This was reported by the telegram channel “DW* main” with reference to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).
According to the department, the number of applicants increased by 51.1%.
The largest group is made up of people from Syria – 104,651 people. They are followed by arrivals from Turkey (62,624), Afghanistan (53,582), Iraq (12,360), Iran (10,206), Georgia (9,399) and Russia (9,028). BAMF reviewed 261,601 applications, granting more than half (51.7%).
Ukrainian refugees do not have to seek asylum in Germany; they are usually provided with temporary protection, the Labor Committee notes. At the end of October last year, Germany accepted about 1.17 million Ukrainian refugees – more than any other EU country.
As reported EADailythe government of the Federal Republic of Germany intends to review the practice of paying benefits to those people who do not want to work, the former Ukrainian Prime Minister writes on social networks Mykola Azarov. It is noted that this measure also applies to citizens of Ukraine, many of whom prefer to live on benefits and not work.
At the first stage, according to Azarov, reductions in social support will be introduced for up to two months. In this case, for people who are on social security, the state will only cover living expenses and utilities.
