Donald Trump expresses skepticism about renewable energies and uses Germany as a negative example. He claims that the energy transition almost destroyed Germany.

Washington, DC – Donald Trump is repeatedly skeptical when it comes to renewable energy. He also repeatedly attracts attention with false statements, such as his reference to the German energy transition in the TV duel with Kamala Harris. Now the Republican has railed against wind power and solar systems and once again used Germany as a negative example.

Donald Trump rails against wind turbines and solar fields

“They put wind turbines everywhere and the wind wasn’t blowing that hard,” Trump said during a campaign appearance in the US state of Florida. “And if they had continued this process, Germany would now be bankrupt.” That is also one of the main reasons why Angela Merkel is no longer Chancellor, the ex-president claimed.

During his appearance before the US election on November 5th, Trump also railed against large solar fields: “Everything made of steel, glass and wires, it looks like hell. You can see rabbits getting caught in it. For any environmentalist it is simply terrible.” Basically he is for solar energy, but prefers smaller systems, for example on the roof.

Trump attacks Harris on natural gas production through fracking – but she doesn’t oppose it

The Republican, on the other hand, wants to fully support natural gas production through fracking, which is controversial because of its environmental consequences. He claimed that Kamala Harris was against it. “They are against anything that has to do with what lies beneath the earth,” Trump said. Harris himself had actually spoken out against fracking in the past. Meanwhile, the Democrat declares: “I will not ban fracking.”

Even when it came to fracking, Trump couldn’t do without a reference to Germany and the planned move away from fossil fuels. “And that is what Germany has just gone through. They almost destroyed themselves.”
