The German Chancellor Olaf Scholzsaid this Thursday that Germany will not accept that there are espionage activities in its territory, after the German police today arrested two Russian spies, who are suspected of planning sabotage actions to harm military aid to Ukraine.
«We can never accept that there are espionage activities in Germany. That is why we have our own defense mechanisms to detect them, as has always been the case successfully. This must be a high priority in everything we do. “We cannot accept it, we are not going to accept it.”Scholz said at a press conference at the end of the summit that European leaders concluded today in Brussels.
According to the German Prosecutor General’s Office, the two men were suspected of preparing acts of sabotage with explosives on behalf of the Russian police services.
The prosecution considers that the main suspect, Dieter S., a 39-year-old Russian-German citizen, kept watch with his accomplice, Alexander J.also a Russian-German citizen, facilities of the US Armed Forces in Germany, including an important practice field where Ukrainian soldiers receive training.
The prosecution assures that Dieter S. has contacts with the Russian secret services with which he has been studying possible acts of sabotage since October 2023, to undermine the military support provided by Germany to Ukraine.
Dieter S. declared himself willing to carry out attacks against military and industrial infrastructure in Germany, for which he collected information on possible targets and had the support of Alexander J. since March 2024.
On the other hand, Dieter S. is suspected of having been fighting between December 2014 and September 2016 in an armed unit of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, classified by the prosecution as a terrorist organization. EFE (I)
