The German national football team has announced the absence of champion Timo Werner from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, due to an ankle injury.

German club Leipzig have announced that German striker Timo Werner will miss the World Cup in Qatar due to an ankle injury.
“Unfortunately, the tests he underwent today in Leipzig showed that he had a torn left ankle, and therefore will be absent until the end of 2022,” Leipzig said in a statement.
Werner injured his left ankle in the 13th minute after a joint foul and violent intervention with Shakhtar captain Taras Stepanenko, and the player tried to keep playing, before indicating to the bench that he needed to be changed.
