Germany and Russia discussed gas transit through Ukraine

Representatives of Germany and Russia discussed the possibility of gas transit through Ukraine after 2024. Consultations on this issue will continue, informs the government of the Russian Federation on Wednesday, September 8.

It is noted that the prospects for using the Ukrainian gas transportation system after 2024 were discussed by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Novak and the representative of the German government for gas transit through Ukraine, Graf Waldersee.

“During the meeting, the possibility of using the Ukrainian transit route after 2024 was discussed. The parties agreed to continue the relevant consultations,” the press release says.

It was also indicated that topical issues of trade and economic interaction between Russia and Germany were considered.

Energy cooperation has the character of a strategic partnership and is pivotal in Russia’s interaction with the European Union, Alexander Novak emphasized during the meeting. Recall that at the end of August, Russia declared its readiness to do without without gas transit through Ukraine.

It was also reported that the security issue after the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was discussed at a meeting between President Vladimir Zelensky and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She promised that Berlin will impose sanctions against Moscow when using the SP-2 as a weapon.
