Germans put Armenia back on earth, again no victory for European champion

Germany has taken over the lead in World Cup qualifying pool J from Armenia. In a direct duel, Die Mannschaft made it clear who is the top favorite to reach the world championship: 6-0.

Germany v Armenia 6-0
Armenia was the surprise in group J for a long time. They collected nine points from the first three games and were therefore the leader, until Die Mannschaft made a statement on Sunday evening. The Germans, who lost to North Macedonia in March and had to give chase, didn’t give a damn about the Armenians in Stuttgart.

When referee Collum whistled after 45 minutes before half time, it was already 4-0. Serge Gnabry scored twice within the first fifteen minutes, after which Marco Reus and Timo Werner also made it onto the scoreboard. In the second half, Jonas Hofmann and Karim Adeyemi determined the final score at 6-0. The big victory puts Germany on course for the World Cup, as it has taken over the lead in the group from Armenia.

Switzerland – Italy 0-0
The brand new European champion has not started well with the resumption of the World Cup qualification. Three days ago there was already a draw against Bulgaria and Switzerland also managed to take points from the Azzurri. The inhabitants of the Alpine country defended well and were also lucky in minute 53 that Jorginho missed a penalty. As a result, it remained at 0-0.

Virtually Italy can now run into problems in their qualifying group. After five games they are on eleven points and are the leader, but the Swiss are second with seven points from three games. If they win all their remaining matches, the European champion will miss a direct World Cup ticket and will have to go into the play-offs.

Spain – Georgia 4-0
After last Thursday’s defeat to Sweden, Spain had something to right and it did against Georgia. José Luis Gayá, Carlos Soler and Ferran Torres ensured that it was already 3-0 at half time and in the second company Pablo Sarabia was allowed to put the icing on the proverbial cake. La Roja is now in the lead again, but the Swedes still have two games left and can go a long way.

Belgium v Czech Republic 3-0
There is no longer any doubt that the Red Devils are going to the World Cup. With the Czech Republic, the only serious pursuer in group E was beaten on Sunday evening and that was partly thanks to Romelu Lukaku, who scored goal number 67 in his hundredth international match. The striker thus opened the score and saw that Eden Hazard and Alexis Saelemaekers also scored.
