Germans prepare for hard times: Export income fell below imports – 2024-03-30 22:48:30

/ world today news/ Germany is experiencing serious difficulties due to the energy crisis and rising prices. Thus, every second inhabitant of the country is afraid of a fuel shortage in the coming winter. This is reported by Bild newspaper, citing data from an INSA survey.

In addition, three-quarters of the respondents called the increase in prices a very heavy burden for the family, half of the respondents complained of a worsening of their financial situation.

Germany is currently experiencing the biggest increase in inflation in two decades – never before have prices in Germany risen so quickly since the introduction of the single European currency.

Along with this, some sectors of the economy may stop working due to gas shortages next winter. This warning was given on the eve by the head of the economic department of the country, Robert Habek.

Meanwhile, Germany is running a trade deficit for the first time since 1991, leaving German export earnings insufficient to buy goods abroad.

According to the statistical office Destatis, the size of the deficit for May this year amounts to about 1 billion euros.

At the same time, Germany is increasing the supply of products to Russia. Thus, in May, exports to the Russian Federation from Germany increased by 29.4 percent compared to the previous month.
