OLDENZAAL/BAD BENTHEIM – The German trade association for public and rail freight transport VDV considers it unwise to plan a north branch for the Betuweroute, while in Germany no plan has yet been started for a connection with the German railway. “Do not make this mistake again,” warns VDV vice-chairman Joachim Berends.

With this, Berends refers to the fact that the Netherlands built the Betuweroute between 1999 and 2007 and that the Germans are still not finished with their connection at Zevenaar. Prorail reports on its website ‘approximately 2030’ as the end date for the project. According to Berends, the same threatens to happen with a possible Noordtak.
