JAKARTA, COMPASS.TV – The appearance of German warships in the South China Sea on Wednesday (15/12/2021) reminded again of the warnings of security experts about the possibility of naval war around Indonesia.

The German warship was a Bavarian frigate. It is the first German warship to cross the South China Sea since 2002, waters through which 40 percent of European merchant ships pass.

Launch The Straits TimesThis step is a form of German support for the United States and its allies to limit China’s ambitions to expand their territorial waters.

Please note, China claims almost the entire South China Sea as its own and builds military outposts on artificial islands in waters rich in natural resources. This contradicts the decisions of international courts.

A spokesman for Germany’s defense ministry said the German naval vessel had started its transit through the South China Sea and was heading to Singapore.

Officials in Berlin said the German navy would stick to common trade routes. It is also unlikely that the frigate will sail through the Taiwan Strait, a routine activity by US marines that China has frequently criticized.

With the presence of Germany, more and more countries are expanding their activities around the Pacific Sumatra to oppose China, such as America, Britain, France, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

On the other hand, the presence of foreign warships in the waters of ASEAN countries has also been a concern for security and military expert Connie Rahakundini Bakrie.

“We really have to be careful because we will see more warships, for sure,” Connie told Compass TV on Saturday (18/9/2021) night.
