A German court issued a criminal order against tennis player Alexander Zverev in connection with allegations of bodily harm. The court in Berlin asks the German tennis player to pay a fine of 450,000 euros. Zverev denied the charges and appealed against the criminal order.
The ATP world number nine is accused of physical violence and bodily harm to a woman during an argument in Berlin in May 2020. The statement said Zverev contested the order and the case is likely to go to trial at the Tiergarten District Court in Berlin after the court listens to other interested parties.
The Schertz Bergmann law firm, which represents Zverev, issued a statement Tuesday denying the allegations. He claims there were procedural irregularities in the case and that he has expert medical evidence in favor of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic singles gold medalist.
Criminal warrants are used in Germany as a means of resolving some cases without going to trial if the suspect warrant is not contested.
