German Teenagers Arrested for Alleged Terror Attack Plans in Cologne

Two teenagers were arrested in Germany on Tuesday because they contacted each other on Telegram about committing an attack. They talked about an attack on Friday, December 1, on a Christmas market or a synagogue in Cologne.

It concerns a fifteen-year-old German boy of Afghan descent and a sixteen-year-old Russian who lives in Germany, the German broadcaster reports. WDR.

The German intelligence service tracked down the teenagers in a group of young jihadists on Telegram. In a video, a young person is said to have called for a “holy war” against the West and a terrorist attack on Friday, December 1 in Germany.

The two suspects are said to have discussed an attack on a Christmas market or a synagogue in Cologne. They wanted to do this with the help of incendiaries or a small truck.

The police managed to track down the suspects near Leverkusen (West Germany) and Wittstock (Northeast Germany). It is still unclear whether the suspects actually prepared an attack and how. The German Public Prosecution Service is currently investigating.

Both teenagers are considered supporters of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS). The two suspects are being charged WDR brought to court on Wednesday.
