According to her, Germany thought it would live in peace in Europe. Therefore, in the past, the country spent less on its own military defense.
Burbock said the country has 50-year-old equipment and has not thought about using tanks again. It is precisely because of this, as she notes, that it is more difficult for Germany than other states to supply aid to Ukraine from its own reserves.
“I mean our war tanks, the worst you can imagine in Europe. That’s been the case for the past decades because Europe was built to live in peace. It’s old fashioned and our stockpiles of weapons are not what they should be right now. be, with the exception of some parts of the air defense, which I mentioned, so we cannot supply everything from our own stocks,” she said.
The Minister stated that it is very important for her to change this reality.
“The decision to provide artillery, and everything we can do with modern systems, obviously requires preparation. But it was important for me too, when you need to think not only about tomorrow, but also the day after tomorrow, because Ukraine obviously needs help” she added.
