German model Tatjana Patitz died on Wednesday at the age of 56 in the US state of California. Her family announced it to various media. The family did not name the cause of her death.
Patitz was a famous supermodel in the 80s and 90s. German photographer Peter Lindbergh played a big role in her breakthrough. He took the iconic photo in 1988 White Shirts: Six Supermodels, Malibuwhich also includes Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington as well as Patitz.
In 1990, the German model posed for Lindbergh again. This time she did it with Naomi Campbell, Evangelista, Turlington and Cindy Crawford for the British Vogue. George Michael saw the photo of the five models, later dubbed the “big five”, and asked them for the music video for his song Freedom ’90.
