According to a German study, fuels in Bulgaria are the most expensive in Europe, compared to the standard of living. Compared to last Easter, we now pay 25-30% more. According to the study, the Bulgarian works 40 minutes to buy a liter of gasoline.
Albert Raykov has been a taxi driver for 20 years. For his many years of experience, he is amazed by the rise in fuel prices, which also affects his income.
“This is an abnormal work with these fuels. One cannot do it. Now I give BGN 100-150 per week for fuel, and before – BGN 50-60,” he told Bulgaria ON AIR.
Vassilev brags to the ruined Bulgarians: Our petrol is the cheapest
The Association of Fuel Traders, Manufacturers and Importers also warns of a new rise in fuel prices. According to the executive director of the Bulgarian Oil and Gas Association Andrey Delchev, we are currently paying about 25-30% more expensive fuels compared to last Easter.
“For the last 7-10 days there has been no increase in the retail price of gas stations. Although the price of crude oil has risen in recent days, the retail price remains unchanged, ie it lags behind the price of crude oil. I hope “At least until the holidays,” he said.
Our country has traditionally had the lowest fuel prices in the EU, experts say. However, the Bulgarian’s income is also lagging behind.
“Currently in Greece it is over 2 euros per liter of diesel and over 2 euros per liter of gasoline. In Bulgaria it is about 3 levs, ie 30% lower. But our incomes are more than 30% lower lower than those in Greece, “said economist Rumen Galabinov.
For 2021, Bulgaria remains in last place in the EU in terms of “purchasing power”.
“Our purchasing power parity is just over 50% of the EU average. In order to improve this, incomes need to increase, because we see that prices are outpacing income growth,” he said.
According to experts, inflation in Bulgaria can reach 14-15%. A stabilization of prices and a reduction in inflation may occur only after the end of the war in Ukraine.
