After his disappointing seventh place in the Olympic final on parallel bars, Lukas Dauser has ruled out further participation in the Summer Games. “I won’t do it for another four years,” said the 2023 world champion, looking ahead to the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028: “Not everyone can have a happy ending, even if I don’t like stories without happy endings.”

Dauser left it open whether his appearance in Paris was also the last major international event for the 31-year-old.
Uncertain future
“I will finish the Bundesliga, the Swiss Cup is still going on. Towards the end of the year I will make a decision on how to proceed,” said Dauser, who had hoped to win a medal in Paris after his silver medal in Tokyo. The European Championships will take place in Leipzig in 2025. “We have to be prepared for a change. Whenever that happens,” said DTB sports director Thomas Gutekunst: “And then we have to make sure that we can achieve our ambitious goals in LA as well.”
Dauser, meanwhile, has to deal with a disappointment. He feels “relatively empty,” said the Upper Bavarian, who fought his way to the Games despite a torn muscle in his upper arm a good six weeks ago and performed a mistake-filled routine in the parallel bars final. “That mistake has never happened to me before, I just didn’t make it onto the podium. That’s bitter for me, but that’s the way it is,” said Dauser.
