German scientists are on the hunt for a 20,000-year-old locket. The locket opened the great windows of history in front of the research team at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig.

They sought information about the man who wore the ancient locket. The researchers succeeded in it! Researchers unearth a locket designed with the teeth of a lion from the Denisova Cave in Siberia.

Using advanced technology, researchers extracted DNA and found that the owner of the locket was a woman. Researchers estimate that she was a woman of northern Eurasian descent who lived 19,000-25,000 years ago.

The scientific team revealed that the research was full of challenges. Genetic material is isolated from the sweat and blood smeared on the locket.

As the locket was buried in the soil, it was initially not possible to determine whether the DNA extracted from it belonged to the owner or was contaminated with the soil. The researchers extracted DNA from the soil in the area where the locket was found for further study. The DNA obtained from the soil and the locket did not match. Therefore, the researchers were able to confirm that the DNA on the locket belonged to the person who wore it.

The age of the artifact is determined by extracting DNA and using a technique called a molecular clock. Currently, blood can only be separated from bone and teeth using this technique. Scientists believe that DNA will be able to be separated from other materials in the future. It is the hope of the scientific world that through this technology it will be possible to learn more about the primitive people and their traditions.
