Volunteers from the German Red Cross (DRK) are bringing 66 devices, primarily to households on Katrepeler Landstrasse. The DRK received the devices from Berlin from the federal association by April.

Those affected by the flood will receive the building dryers free of charge. The DRK and the city of Bremen cover the costs of distributing and maintaining the devices. “By providing construction dryers, we want to support the people affected in drying their houses and apartments as quickly as possible and thus avoid further consequential damage,” said Finance Senator Björn Fecker (Greens).

Drying can take several weeks

At the end of December, parts of Borgfeld were under water after continuous rain, including in the Timmersdorf district. Due to the rapid rise in the level of the Wümme, many of the cellars of houses located in front of the dike line were full. After using pumps, walls remain that are heavily moistened and now need to dry. This can take several weeks.
