DRK head of operations: “It takes a toll on me psychologically”

Like DRK on-call manager Peter Braune told MDR SACHSEN-ANHALT that the lounge, treatment tents with heaters, camp beds, helmets, emergency backpacks, radios, an emergency power generator as well as medication and bandages were destroyed.

The DRK had rented an area of the halls. Peter Braune says: “It’s taking a toll on me psychologically. I see our charred lockers and I get weak in the knees. We’ve built up a lot in the last few years and also accumulated material. There are so many memories attached to it and everything is within a few hours destroyed.”

This takes a toll on me psychologically. I see our charred lockers and my knees weaken.

DRK restricted for larger operations

The five emergency vehicles were removed from the burning halls in time. The police identified a technical defect as the cause of the fire.

According to Braune, the DRK Osterwieck is currently limited in larger operations. The last time they improvised was last Tuesday in Wernigerode. 38 people complained of vomiting diarrhea. They were not treated on camp beds in tents as usual, but in a hotel.
