German Radio Prize 2024: Daring music mix and cheers | German Radio Prize

Thorsten Schorn will comment on the award ceremony for the people on the radio from his glass studio, which is located directly on the stage. In total, more than 60 stations will broadcast the evening – including the island radio on Mallorca. And the show will also be broadcast on television, delayed at night, for example on NDR, HR, BR, MDR or WDR.

The wait is over and the actual awards ceremony begins. Prizes will be awarded in a total of ten categories.

Steven Gätjen: “Morning shows are the supreme discipline”

ProSieben all-rounder Steven Gätjen takes the stage and gives the first laudation of the evening. It starts with the “Best Morning Show”. “Morning shows are the ultimate discipline because people not only get up very early, but also want to be entertained for four hours.” He himself started his career there.

The category was won by “Der Schöne Morgen mit Kerstin Hermes und Julia Menger.” According to the Grimme jury, they are “presenters who don’t take themselves too seriously, but take their talk guests seriously and their listeners even more seriously. This creates a flow that is unique in the German radio landscape: stimulating, entertaining, informative.”

Award for special emotions

The jury awarded Nicole von Wagner and Jochen Trus and their section “A Song and My Story” special emotions. They won in the category “Best Music Format”. The jury’s statement stated: “The fact that the station breaks up its playlist twice a day and turns a listener into a short-term DJ also deepens the connection to the program. Without making a big fuss, “A Song and My Story” shows how movingly the importance of music can be anchored in everyday radio.” Beatrice Egli presented the award. Before she herself stood on the stage decorated with giant golden tinsel and performed her hit “Balance”. Whether it was pop fans or those who didn’t really count themselves among them: hands clap, legs wiggle and heads nod to the rhythm of the song.

Best newcomer with great closeness to the audience

For the first time this year, all 24 applicants in the “Best Newcomer” category were invited to Hamburg and had the chance to win the prize. The young talents are nervous before their big performance on stage. Of course, everyone would like to win the award. Nevertheless, they are loudly happy for the winner in the green (fake) fur vest and celebrate the winner. Filiz de Campos Oliveira from bigFM prevails and can take home the award. And absolutely rightly so, after all, according to the jury, she is a “good-mood whirlwind in full swing with great closeness to her listeners.” She herself is delighted about the award: “Five years ago I was still working in the bank and now I’m standing here. Choose the path that makes you happy.”

Entertainment Award goes to “Kur-Oase”

Stand-up comedian Parshad Esmaeili gets political. She gives her laudation in a blue dress: “As the daughter of foreigners, I am here to make the color blue sexy again, but above all human again.” She presents the award for “Best Entertainment” to Andreas Altenburg’s “Kur-Oase” on NDR 2. After all, “Kur-Oase” is a “wonderfully harmonious radio sitcom, pointed and with a high level of humor,” according to the jury.

In the most important category “Best Presenter”, Gianluca Meli from 98.8 KISS FM was convincing. The jury said: “Gianluca Meli is like a rough diamond that should not be polished too much, because he already shines in so many colors: in his interactions with his listeners, in spontaneity, humor and presence. A force of nature on the microphone.” Congratulations to all the winners!
