A passer-by saw how the presenter of ‘Guten Morgen Deutschland’ just before the broadcast quickly smeared her clothes and face with mud. The images were put online and entered no time viral.

‘I am ashamed’

Ohlen says in a statement on Instagram that she made a “serious mistake”. “As a journalist I should never have done this,” she writes. In her own words, she had helped people affected by the floods in the days before. ,,I found it uncomfortable to appear in front of the camera in clean clothes. As a result, without thinking about it, I smeared mud on my clothes.”

RTL Germany announced in a statement on Thursday that the presenter has been suspended. “Our reporter’s actions are clearly at odds with our journalistic principles and own standards,” a spokesperson said.
