German police remove a tanker truck containing sulfuric acid from the road; Defective brakes, rust, cracks and fake ADR certificate

DORTMUND – On Tuesday, October 22, the German police stopped a tanker driver loaded with 24 tons of sulfuric acid on the A44 near Werl. The trip to Hungary ended at the Haarstrang Süd rest area. The police prevented the driver from continuing because the brakes on three wheels were defective. In addition, there were rust spots and cracks on the body parts of carriers.

The position of the tanker was similar to that of the driver, who gave a false ADR certificate to the police during the investigation.

Anyone who transports dangerous goods must take a course and demonstrate their knowledge with the ADR certificate. There are costs involved in participating in this course. The driver had to pump out the sulfuric acid. That also costs money, according to the police.

The driver’s ADR certificate was also missing from another ADR transport that police checked on the same day. In addition, the cargo service was also needed during this transportation.

German police removed the two drivers from traffic during a massive investigation.

The purpose of this large-scale investigation is to immediately punish violations of the broad rules in the transport of goods. This concerned driving and rest periods, vehicle technology, load protection, unspecified work, waste legislation, animal transport and food inspection.

Authorities punished a total of 99 violations with criminal and administrative violations and warning fines. Five drivers could not provide a driver’s license. Two drivers were driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs. The most common violations (31) were related to driving and rest periods.
