German police are providing 24-hour security in the vicinity of the University of Berlin’s Charite Clinic, where Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny was transferred yesterday. This is reported by several Russian media. Police have indicated that its presence is directly related to the hospitalization of Navalny in this clinic. A journalist from the MBH Media portal reported that several police buses were on duty near the clinic, as well as about ten police officers moving around the perimeter in groups of two to five people.
Navalny got sick on Thursday on a plane en route from the Siberian city of Tomsk to Moscow, and the aircraft made an emergency landing in Omsk, where Navalny was taken to the hospital’s intensive care unit. Russian medics, who had previously banned the transport of Navalny, finally agreed to his transfer to Germany on Friday night.
This was demanded by both the politician’s relatives and colleagues who believe that he has been poisoned. The condition of Navalny after the transfer is described as stable, but doctors have now declined to comment further, indicating that more information will be provided tomorrow.
