German Players Show Progress on Day Three of European Women’s Championships

The third day of competition at the European Women’s Championships in Trelleborg, Sweden brings the best results so far for the German players, but the burden of the difficult rounds before is too high for most of the players in black-red-gold to still make the cut. Charlotte Back and Helen Briem hold up the flag for Junior Team Germany in the final round.

Trelleborg/Sweden – With Helen Briem in fifth place and Charlotte Back in 15th place, two players have qualified for the final round who were already convincing at the European Team Championships almost two weeks ago. Helen Briem is just three strokes behind lead Swede Ingrid Lindblad and two strokes behind the three players who share second place.

The Spaniard Julia Lopez shot down the bird on the third day, playing the lowest round of the entire European Championship with a bogey-free 63. Lopez plays a very athletic style and uses her elemental power to throw similar lengths of shot onto the pitch as Helen Briem.
The athlete from Stuttgart GC Solitude played a 72 (+1), starting with an eye and ending with a birdie.
“The light wind made it difficult. It’s almost more difficult to assess than when it’s really blowing, although it’s actually easier. I hardly ever hit bad shots, but was very, very rarely rewarded. In addition, my putting wasn’t quite as happy today and then somehow very little goes forward. But tomorrow applies: full attack and hope that the other players leave the door open”, Briem is combative before the final round.

Back Even Par

Charlotte Back from GC St. Leon-Rot has now needed 71 strokes after twice 72. The Kurpfalz resident countered two bogeys with two birdies and went into the final round with a total of two over par from 15th place.
There were many good things that gave us courage for the final act of this European Championship: “I hit a lot of greens today, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to take my chances to the full. Still, it was a solid lap. Tomorrow I’ll try to do my thing and then see what comes of it.”

Twice 70th

Marie-Agnes Fischer and Paula Schulz-Hanßen both stayed under par with 70 strokes and almost made it into the cut. With a total of twelve over par, both were only missing two points for the leap into the final field.
The conclusion of the 2020 European champion is accordingly: “Today I found my way back into my game. Unfortunately, the last two days were too high, so it wasn’t enough. But I’m taking a lot from this week.”

Esther Poburski, who looks after the team in Sweden, was also very satisfied with the performance of the third day: “Today’s results cast a positive light on our MC in the leaderboard. On the other two days the scores went too high. Charlotte played very solid again today. Paula and Marie-Agnes were really good today.”

The leader flight starts on Saturday at 1 p.m. Helen Briem starts her final round together with Rocio Tejedo from Spain at 12.40 p.m.
Charlotte Back also has a Spaniard by her side in Andrea Revuelta when she tackles the last 18 holes on the Tegelberga GK course.
