“German paramilitaries promised fighters a monthly salary of 40,000 euros” Abroad

German media report that the two suspects had promised other members a monthly salary of 40,000 euros. They hoped that another party would provide the financing and had pinned their hopes on Saudi Arabia. That country is deeply involved in the Yemeni civil war. According to the prosecutor, Saudi Arabia has never responded to attempts to contact the suspects.

According to the prosecutor, G. had approached seven people. They were former soldiers and former police officers.

The men would have wanted to end the war with their army and thus facilitate negotiations between the rebels and the government in Yemen. The prosecution says the soldiers knew they would have to kill people to do so.

After the battle in Yemen, the ex-servicemen wanted to continue with their organization and make themselves available as mercenaries, the prosecutor said.
