German National Team Coach Julian Nagelsmann Admits Work Ahead of Euro Championship

The German representatives have to do an incredible amount of work half a year before the home European Championship. This was stated by the national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, whose charges lost both November preparatory games. After a 2-3 home defeat by Turkey on Thursday, they lost 0-2 in Austria on Tuesday.

Marcel Sabitzer and Christoph Baumgartner decided the victory of the Austrians in Vienna with their goals. The guests spent almost the entire second half in a weakened state without the suspended Leroy Sané.

“We don’t play lightly. We have to do an incredible amount of work in every position. You have to accept this situation,” Nagelsmann told ZDF television.

Sané received a red card in the 49th minute for retaliating in a fight with Phillippe Mwen and knocking the opponent to the ground. The 27-year-old Bayern Munich attacker was sent off for the first time in his 402nd professional game. Sané faces a penalty for three international matches.

“Leroy apologized in front of the whole team. What Mwene did wasn’t right either, but of course Leroy has to keep calm and avoid such a reaction,” said the 36-year-old Nagelsmann.

Since coming to the bench of the four-time world champions in September, he has not been doing well. The successor to the sacked Hansi Flick has a record of one win, one draw and two defeats in four matches. This year, out of eleven matches, the Germans only won three times and lost six times.

“We lack confidence, which is no surprise when you look at the last few months,” Nagelsmann said. “We work excellently in training, but unfortunately we cannot transfer it to the field,” added the former Bayern or Leipzig coach.
