Rudi Föller, director of the German national football team, said that the federation is seeking to appoint a new technical director for the national team before the two friendly matches scheduled in the United States during next October, and has begun studying a number of candidates.
Last Sunday, the German Federation announced that it would dispense with the services of Hansi Flick following the embarrassing defeat to its Japanese counterpart 4/1 in the friendly match held last Saturday, where the team achieved only four victories during the last 17 matches.
Föller confirmed that he is not available to coach the German national team for a longer period, and revealed that discussions regarding the new coach began with Bernd Neuendorf, President of the German Football Association, and Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the German Football League.
Fuller added: “Of course, some names were raised in our conversations. Of course, there is discussion about a number of nominated names.”
The new coach’s mission will be to return to victories before Germany hosts the European Championship next year. Fuller said: “In an important tournament held on home soil, such as the European Championship, it is important to find the best solution, a coach who puts his heart and soul into this matter.”
