– After more than a year of radio silence, a German music star suddenly makes his comeback. However, there is a more than tragic reason behind this.
Fans once again had to wait for over a year. On August 4th, 2023, the German rap star Michael Schindler aka Shindy released his last single, “EY MA”. Except for brief guest appearances, such as during Shirin David’s tour, it was quiet again about the 36-year-old German-Greek, who was born in Bietigheim-Bissingen.
Then on Monday afternoon (October 21, 2024) – without any prior notice, there was suddenly music from Shindy again.
The track is called “40 Days”.which is exactly two minutes long. You notice after just a few seconds that somehow everything is different. Schindler, who otherwise consciously and happily shows himself in expensive clothes, sneakers for 13,000 euros or with watches that are as expensive as single-family homes, steps onto the shore of a lake in the clip – dressed completely in black.
After an emotional intro, fans hear the artist’s voice again for the first time in over a year. The lines get right under your skin: “And suddenly the birds sound different, the sun burns harder. 40 days – your soul separates from its body.”
It is now clear at the latest: This time Schindler is not interested in talking about wealth or material things. Shindy then finally clarifies things on Instagram: “Exactly 40 days ago I lost my mother. According to Orthodox belief, her soul is leaving the earth today. Rest in peace, mom.”
Schindler, who repeatedly emphasizes in his songs how important family is to him, has to cope with the next blow of fate. A few years ago his father died early. He has made his love for his late grandmother public in several songs in the past. So now Shindy is also mourning his mother.
Arch-enemy reports
In the clip you see the musician walking thoughtfully in the vastness of nature. The musician receives a lot of support from fans and music colleagues in the comment columns. However, one comment stands out in particular: Farid Bang, one of the arch-enemies, also speaks out with the following lines: “I’m very sorry, may your soul rest in peace. I wish you a lot of strength! Unfortunately, I didn’t know that, otherwise I would have saved myself a few sayings.”
Schindler and Farid Bang are considered arch enemies. They insulted each other musically several times in songs and on the lowest verbal level. Lines against the respective parents also appeared again and again in past songs. So now Farid Bang is giving his hand here. Shindy has not yet responded to the post.
In the past, the artist became known throughout Germany primarily through his collaboration with rap legend Bushido. During his prime time around 2016, Shindy was one of the most successful artists in the country. In doing so, he consciously stood out from the crowd who were just looking for quick money in hastily produced songs with “le le le” and “Gucci” lines.
Both lyrically and in terms of video image, it was always important to Schindler to play in the top league. He repeatedly made fun of the scene with lines like “I don’t wear a Gucci bag because I’m a star / German rap is just costume jewelry / Daddy drops, German rap pisses in his gaming chairs.”
The way is new
Also unusual: While it is now common practice to announce and promote new music, sometimes for months, Shindy often released music without any announcement. And more than successfully. The artist wanted to show: My fan base is so immense, I don’t need any advertising for my art. Success proved him right. The singles regularly went to number one within hours on platforms such as YouTube, iTunes or Spotify. The line “drop singles out of nowhere again and you’ll have Angzzzzt” – is still cult among fans today.
However, the artist repeatedly found himself in contractual difficulties. That’s why he disappeared completely from the scene several times, sometimes overnight, for years. The fact that he left fans completely in the dark for a long time also caused criticism. There was no music for fans because it was simply not legally clear how and under which label he could release songs commercially.
A music shoot in Nuremberg caused a stir years ago. Shindy has also appeared in a luxury car from a Nuremberg car company. It is not yet known whether more music will follow. At least it is now a little more clear why things became quieter around the artist this time.
