German MP Hansjörg Durz Criticizes Sharp Decline in Funding for Augsburg District

A total of 91.9 million euros in KfW funding flowed into the Augsburg district in 2023. That is 51 percent less than in 2022 and even 68 percent less than 2021. Funding for citizens and companies in the district has plummeted. “The central reasons are the funding confusion and the current difficult economic situation,” states CSU constituency representative Hansjörg Durz.
The economy only benefited 43 million euros last year. Successful support programs such as the digitalization and innovation loan for companies were canceled and grants were converted into loans. “The funding policy shows that the federal government’s measures are counterproductive. We need an economic turnaround,” demands the chairman of the Economic Committee of the German Bundestag.
At 47.5 million euros, significantly less money was made available to private households, with half of the funds intended to implement energy efficiency measures and new buildings. After the temporary and abrupt stop to funding for housing, applications can now at least be submitted again. “This is urgently needed in times of high construction costs, especially for families,” states CSU Bundestag member Hansjörg Durz.
The still most popular funding program in the private sector, even if the numbers have fallen significantly compared to previous years, was the funding of charging power for electric cars. In total, only 127 applications with a volume of 1.1 million euros were approved. In 2021, 3,345 applications were subsidized.
Funding in Germany totaled EUR 77.1 billion in 2023 (2022: EUR 136.1 billion). The decline is also due to the sharp decline in financial support for energy companies.
