German midfielder was loaned by the eagles to Borussia Mönchengladbach and was hired permanently
Borussia Mönchengladbach announced this Friday that they completed the signing of Julian Weigl from Benfica.
The German international midfielder will, therefore, leave the eagles for good and continue his career at the club to which he was loaned this season by the Luz club. He signed a contract until July 2028.
Weigl said goodbye to the Luz club with a short thank you on social media. “You can leave Benfica, but Benfica will never leave you! Thank you”, wrote the German midfielder.
The 27-year-old Weigl, who has played for Germany six times, has scored one goal in 20 appearances for Borussia Mönchengladbach this season. Hired by Benfica from Borussia Dortmund in January 2020 in exchange for 20 million euros, he scored five goals in 115 games with an eagle on his chest.
The SAD of the eagles has already informed the CMVM of the sale of the German midfielder, announcing that they received close to 7.2 million euros, leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach entitled to retain the 5% solidarity mechanism, to be distributed among the clubs where the German international graduated.
