Jakarta –
A German man has died after a failed penis enlargement. According to reports, the man was injected with silicone grease into his genitals by a catering worker posing as a medic.
The man, who was not identified, died of sepsis seven months later after a series of health complications.
The man suspected of having carried out the procedure is Torben K. He is believed to have no medical qualifications.
“He advertised his work through online advertisements,” he claimed, quoted from the Daily Mail.
Prosecutors claim that the victim received injections into his penis and scrotum at Torben K’s apartment, in the city of Solingen in 2019. The victim reportedly started having breathing problems shortly after returning from the procedure to his hometown of Hesse, a region in central Germany.
According to local media, he sought help from the Giessen University Hospital and then spent months in intensive care. Prosecutors claim the injection caused the victim to develop sepsis, an overreaction of the body’s immune system due to infection.
“Unfortunately, the silicone grease ended up in the person’s bloodstream,” said High Prosecutor Wolf-Tilman Baumert.
This causes severe health complications, and ends in death.
“The fact that the man requested treatment is irrelevant from our point of view. The accused acted in a very immoral manner,” he added.
The trial is currently underway with a verdict expected later this month.
Liquid silicone injections for genital augmentation have actually been used for years, despite their risks. This procedure works by provoking the immune system to react to the foreign substance by forming a thick mass called a granuloma.
In theory, this increases the size and thickness of the injected tissue, making men’s genitals the larger they desire. However, this cosmetic procedure is banned in the UK because of the serious risks.
One of the main risks is a condition called siliconoma, a severe inflammatory reaction to silicone occurring in the tissue after injection, which then needs to be removed.
Surgery to remove silicone is usually the only solution but the damage can often be permanent.
The unnamed German man is just one of dozens flawed in the pursuit of a bigger or more aesthetically pleasing penis.
