The incident took place when 39-year-old Susanna Ohlen was to report directly from the clean-up work after the flood in the town of Bad Münstereifel this week.
To make it all more dramatic, she smeared her clothes with mud before going on the air. A video of this appeared online, and RTL has now asked Ohlen to take a break from his job as a journalist and newscaster.
– For me as a journalist, this should never have happened. But as a human being, who sympathizes with all those affected and their sufferings, it still happened. I ask for forgiveness, Ohlen writes on Instagram.
– The behavior of our journalist was clearly contrary to the basic journalistic principles and our own standard. As soon as we were informed on Monday, we sent the person home on compulsory holiday, it is stated in an announcement from RTL.
