The 22-year-old Seider, who is the sixth pick of the 2019 draft, collected 92 points for 12 goals and 80 assists in 164 games in two seasons in the NHL. He will appear at the World Cup for the fourth time, in 2021 in Riga he was voted the best defender of the tournament and also made it to the All Star team.
A year younger, Peterka, who was selected by the Sabers in the second round of the 2020 draft in the 34th position, has 79 games and 32 points (12+20) in two seasons in the NHL. The 28-year-old Sturm, who made his debut in the German national team in preparation for the championship, has 206 games and 65 points (34+31) in the NHL for Minnesota, Colorado and San Jose. He scored two goals and three assists in 22 playoff games.
From North America, the squad also includes defender Leon Gawanke from Manitoba of the AHL, for whom he played his fourth season and has not yet had a chance in the NHL in the Winnipeg jersey. Another quarterback, Kai Wissmann, spent his senior year at Boston Farm in Providence.
Defenders Moritz Müller and Jonas Müller and forwards Marcel Noebels and Kahun achieved the historic success under the five rings. The 26-year-old native of Planá near Mariánské Lázně returned to Europe two years ago after a three-year stint in the NHL, where he played 186 games for Chicago, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Edmonton and scored 83 points (34+49). He did not score in two playoff games. He has been playing for Bern ever since.
In addition to Sturm, goalkeeper Maximilian Franzreb from Bremerhaven, defender Maksymilian Szuber with forwards Justin Schütz and Filip Varejcka from EHC Munich and defender Leon Hüttl with forward Wojciech Stachowiak from Ingolstadt and Parker Tuomie from Straubing can make their debut at a major international event.
Striker Yasin Ehliz from EHC Munich dropped out of the squad even before Tuesday’s friendly in Munich with the USA due to an injury in the lower part of the body, and subsequently his clubmate Andreas Eder met the same fate. Conversely, forward Manuel Wiederer from Eisbären Berlin returned to the squad.
The Germans will enter the championship on Friday with a match against Sweden, and in the other duels of the basic group A in Tampere they will face Finland, the United States of America, Denmark, Austria, Hungary and France.
