The car accident in Germany in which four Dutch people died yesterday leads to a lot of sadness. “We are very shocked,” says Jacco Brand. He is chairman of a foundation for which two victims volunteered with their car.
Three men (39, 42 and 56 years old) and a woman (37 years old) were killed yesterday. The 39-year-old driver from Nieuwegein and the 42-year-old from Voorhout regularly made their car available as volunteers for trips with sick children, says Brand.
“They were both car enthusiasts in the prime of their lives,” says the chairman of Stichting Dag met een Lach. The organization, which is not involved in the fatal ride, speaks of a pitch-black day.
The German police have not yet received any new information about the investigation. However, a spokesperson can report that the slightly injured person is also a Dutchman. It’s about the co-driver of the last car that crashed. The hope is that this person can provide more clarity about the circumstances.

Three Porches were involved in the multiple accident on the A3 just across the border at Emmerich. The motorists took part in a ride by 9Miles, an organization in Purmerend for car fans. According to Brand, more volunteers from Dag met een Lach participated in the ride.
Presumably the first car skidded as a result of the wet road surface. The 42-year-old driver and 37-year-old passenger slipped through the guardrail and ended up in a ditch.
Shot to help
The motorist from Nieuwegein (39) would have come to the rescue of the two. He parked his car on the hard shoulder. With or without his help, the man and woman managed to get out of the car. When they were all on the emergency lane, the 56-year-old driver drove up.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the third Porsche also lost his grip on the road. He then collided with the trio. The woman and 39-year-old man were killed instantly, the others later succumbed to their injuries.
Brand calls it a’freak accident‘. “Something goes wrong and then everything goes completely wrong. It’s horrible when you see something like that,” he refers to the people who drove past the accident.
The two cars may not have adapted their speed to the wet road surface, police said yesterday. There are no indications of a race, or alcohol or drug use.
While the accident is still under investigation, social media is full of speculation about what happened. Relatives call for waiting with a judgement. “You don’t know what you’re talking about,” one woman tweeted. “Our friend died in that accident. He pulled over his Porsche to help. Realize what you’re writing.”
