The German foreign minister emphasized that Hamas, which was hiding in a refugee camp near Jabalia before the attack, used the refugees there as “human shields”.
According to Burbock, Germany must play a mediating role in Israel’s war to prevent a “wide conflagration” across the region. The foreign minister said Israel faces a second front on the border with the West Bank and a third front on the border with Lebanon, where fighting is already taking place between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah. “We have to do everything we can to prevent this,” Baerbock said.
She called the “Hamas” attack on Israel on October 7 a turning point for the whole world, and also condemned the expressions of hatred directed against Israel in Germany, because of which many parents of Jewish children do not even dare to send their children to Jewish schools.
“It is more than disturbing that behind criticism of Israel lies pure anti-Semitism. It should be clearly stated”, said Burbok in an interview.
The minister also criticized climate activist Greta Thunberg. Burbock called her latest Instagram post of a stuffed toy octopus, criticized as anti-Semitic, “completely incomprehensible”.
