BERLIN – Fans in Germany protested together against Monday’s decision by the German Football League (DFL) to sell part of the broadcast rights to an outside investor.

During the Bundesliga and second division matches on Friday, they remained silent for twelve minutes. This number is meant to symbolize the team’s 12th player, which the crowds of fans tend to think of as.

On Friday, however, there were more than just silent protests, the Bundesliga match between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Werder Bremen was stopped for several minutes as supporters pelted the pitch with chocolate coins. Paderborn’s second league match with Rostock was also interrupted twice, fans threw pyrotechnics on the lawn.

The DFL proposal passed by only one vote, 24 out of 36 clubs of the two highest competitions voted for it. Fans protested against him for several months with banners. They fear that the investor will gain power in deciding on the beginnings of the matches and could also enforce the holding of meetings outside of Germany. The information was brought by the DPA agency.
