The Potsdam Royals have mastered the playoff quarter-finals of the German Football League (GFL) without any major problems. The Potsdam team beat the Allgäu Comets 84:20 and are now in the semi-finals.
In the first quarter, the guests from Allgäu were well positioned and made things difficult for the Royals. The second quarter began without any scores, but the Royals defended much better and seemed to have really got into the game. The Comets were able to score two touchdowns to Nate Stewart, but at the end of the quarter Potsdam still had a 40:14 lead.

Comets with smaller squad than expected
“We had expected a little more resistance,” admitted Eberhard von Lobenstein, board member of the Potsdam Royals. The Allgäu Comets had traveled to Potsdam with a “very small squad,” which of course gave the hosts an advantage.
The Royals didn’t let anything go wrong in the last two quarters either. In the home airship stadium, the score was 62:14 after the third quarter, and the final score was 84:20. The Allgäu Comets were a “great opponent and fair partner,” emphasized von Lobenstein. That is not to be taken for granted after a 14:96 defeat against the Royals in the last encounter.
The focus is on the finale
Potsdam’s semifinal opponent will be decided on Sunday. The New York Lions Braunschweig are guests of the ifm Razorbacks Ravensburg. Von Lobenstein is relatively sure how the match will turn out: “It will be Braunschweig. I find it hard to believe anything else. But we are prepared for everything and Braunschweig would be the more unpleasant opponent for us.”
Von Lobenstein was also full of praise for the exceptional player in their own ranks, Jaylon Henderson: “Jaylon is simply incredible. But not only as an individual, but also especially within the team. He has built a great structure around himself.”
If the Potsdam Royals reach the final, he expects the Dresden Monarchs to be their opponents. But first the semifinals will be played on September 28th and 29th.
