German elections – preliminary coalition talks concluded

The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Liberals from the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and Soyuz 90 / Greens have said they are ready to begin formal negotiations to form a coalition. This decision was announced by the heads of the delegations of the three political forces after today’s meeting.

The parties prepared a 12-page document summarizing the interim results.

According to SPD candidate for German chancellor Olaf Scholz, the parties managed to achieve a “very good result”.

On Friday morning, representatives of the SPD, FDP and Greens met separately to assess the sounding negotiations that had taken place. Then a joint discussion took place with the participation of all interested parties.

Preliminary negotiations carried out in order to build confidence, as well as to clarify common views and obstacles to possible cooperation.

Then the parties will begin coalition talks, which ideally should lead to the conclusion of a coalition agreement – a binding document that will become the “road map” of the ruling coalition for the next four years.
