German Dragon Boat Championship: Ucker dragons set course for the World Championship in Florida

The Prenzlauer Uckerdrachen returned from the German championship on the Beetzsee very successfully. Now they are heading for the 2022 World Cup in Florida.

Prenzlau ·

The Prenzlauer Uckerdrachen set course for the world championship, which will take place in Sarasota (Florida) next year. The Uckermark returned from the German championship, which was held in the state of Brandenburg on the Beetzsee, with great success. The Prenzlauer Drachen teamed by club boss Mike Förster were able to take silver once, bronze twice and fourth place five times. “We qualified for the 2022 World Championship with two boats,” says Mike Förster happily. “We are just happy”

One-year compulsory break

The last German championship to date took place in 2019, where the Prenzlauer team was able to qualify for the Club World Cup in France, which unfortunately then became a “victim” of Corona. After that, there was a one-year compulsory break due to the corona, so that the DM on the Beetzsee was the first official regatta since 2019. “This DM in Brandenburg and the qualification for the Club World Cup in Florida in 2022 were all the more important. The competition was tough because everyone wanted to go there, ”said the club boss, paying tribute to his Ucker kite.

Long series of successes

The successful series of the club, which trains on the Unteruckersee, began at the German Championships 2014 in Schwerin, where they won the German championship title over 500 meters open (short boat), third place over 200 meters. In 2016 they were again German Open Boot champions at the DM, from which they returned with eleven medals. The streak of success has been consistently high since then.
