German director among the winners

The German director Jens Kevin Georg is among this year’s winners of the Student Oscars. The graduate of the Babelsberg Film University Konrad Wolf in Potsdam won the coveted prize with his short film “Kruste”. The Oscar Academy in Los Angeles announced the winners on Tuesday. According to the award, 12 films by young directors won the 51st student competition. In the almost half-hour short film, director and screenwriter Georg tells a story about growing up, identity and belonging. A twelve-year-old boy named Fabi faces the challenge of being accepted as a full member of the family. To do this, he must present his first, major wound, which crusts over into a scar. “Kruste” was one of seven finalists in the short film category “Narrative”. The other two winning films are “The Compatriot” by two directors from the Czech Republic and “Neither Donkey nor Horse” by a film graduate from the US University of Southern California. The Student Oscars will be awarded in London in October. All award winners can also enter their films in the short film categories at the 2025 Oscar competition.
