The approximately 30-minute long recording of the conversation between German defense officials was published on Friday by Margarita Simonyan, the head of the Russian propaganda body “RT”.
In the conversation, high-ranking Air Force officers discuss the theoretical possibility that “Taurus” missiles could be delivered to Ukraine.
The clip also includes a politically sensitive reference to the British having “some people on the ground” in connection with the delivery of British Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine.
German news agency DPA reported on Saturday, citing its sources, that the leaked recording was authentic.
Conversations of German defense officials took place on the audio and video conference platform “Webex”. How and when exactly the conversation was recorded and how it reached Simonyan is unknown.
One of the participants of the conversation was in a hotel in Singapore during the telephone conversation. German media admit that listening devices were installed in the room.
The conversations are known to have taken place on the Webex platform without using a local line, which should provide protection against eavesdropping.
