German Customs Confirms Confiscation of Christmas Gifts from Russia Due to EU Sanctions

German customs confirmed the high probability of confiscation of Christmas gifts sent from Russia to Germany. Due to the EU Council Regulations of 2014, books and toys received from Russians will most likely not reach their recipients. TASS reports this today, December 17.

In general, German customs intends to more seriously comply with the rules of the sanctions regime. EADaily recalls that the relevant Regulation No. 833/2014 was adopted by the EU Council on July 31, 2014.

“As a result, the import of many goods of various nature from Russia is prohibited. It also includes goods that may have the typical contents of gift parcels, for example, pulp and paper, wood and wood products, stones and precious metals, cigarettes, plastics and chemical products, including finished chemical products such as cosmetics,” confirmed German customs officers.

German customs will not make exceptions for anyone – goods will be seized, even when sent from one private person to another. And arrest in this case means complete confiscation.
