German customs arrest Dutch drug suspect at letterbox

Customs in Germany has arrested a Dutchman (50) for sending more than 50 kilos of amphetamine and other drugs. The arrest took place earlier this month but was only announced today.

In the weeks before that, detectives had discovered that someone was sending drugs from Kranenburg, Germany. That place is just across the border near Nijmegen. From there, more than a thousand mail items containing drugs were sent to addresses in and outside Germany in six weeks.

The Dutchman was arrested on 8 June. He had driven a car from the Netherlands with sixty items of mail to Kranenburg. When he tried to put them in a letterbox, he was arrested.
