Defenders Michal Beňo and Samuel Hain, as rookies, have been nominated by the Slovak hockey team for the German Cup in Krefeld.
It features only players from the top Slovak and Czech leagues. Craig Ramsay’s assistants will be Andrej Podkonický and Peter Frühauf, who will also serve as national team scout.
The coaching staff led by coach Craig Ramsay and general manager Miroslav Šatan included a third newcomer on the nomination list, but goalkeeper Samuel Hlavaj will only attend a national team retreat in Bratislava.
Twenty-year-old Beňo from Bratislava Slovan and five-year-old Hain from Zvolen will also travel to Krefeld, where they can make their international debut. The twenty-two-member squad consists of eleven active players in the Slovak extraliga Tipos and eleven from the Czech extraliga. The most experienced defender is Peter Čerešňák with 105 appearances.
“Once again, we tried to invite new faces to the national team so that they could show us how they will fight for Slovakia internationally. We have two new defenders. In addition to them, we also have experienced national team members in the team he should lead. the team in the German Cup. We are curious to know how young people and new players in particular will face the international challenge that awaits them. ” said the general manager of the national team, Miroslav Šatan, for the hockeyslovakia.sk portal.
HAVE FOUND A REPLACEMENT FOR HAŠČÁK
Frühauf will join former assistant Podkonické, who has worked alongside Ramsay on the national team since the 2018/19 season. Until recently, he worked as an assistant to Dukla Trenčín. The main task of the 40-year-old former representative will be the coach.
In addition, he will also act as a scout for the national team. As part of the new agenda, he will take over some of the tasks that were carried out by Deputy Director General Oto Haščák last year. Frühauf worked a few months ago with the “A” coaching staff in preparation for the World Cup in Finland.
After the end at Trenčín, he became the Canadian manager’s assistant season. “It is a great honor and a challenge at the same time. Also a great responsibility, since we represent our country. I will do my best so that at the end of the season, together with my fellow coaches and players, we can be successful and proud.” said Frühauf, who represented Slovakia at the 2010 World Cup.
He added in the post of scout of the national team: “After Oto Haščák, who did a great job, there was a hole in the field of scouting for potential national team members. It won’t be easy to replace him completely. That’s why I started collecting data earlier so that Craig, Andrej and Miro they have enough information about all the players. I intend to visit them in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. It is important that the national team management and the coaches are in regular contact with potential representatives. The information we will get through closer communication will certainly help us in the selections of the national team “.
The Slovak national team will meet in Bratislava on Monday 7 November in the afternoon before the German Cup. After several training sessions, they will fly to Germany on Wednesday. In Krefeld, in the traditional November event, he will play against Austria on Thursday 10 November from 4.15 pm. After a day off, they will continue the tournament on Saturday from 2pm against Denmark, while home Germany will be their opponent the next day starting at 2:30 pm.
