German Club Augsburg Dismisses Coach Enrico Massen After Recent Losses

German club Augsburg announced, yesterday evening, Monday, the dismissal of its coach, Enrico Massen, two days after losing to Darmstadt at home, 1-2, in the local league.

The club, which occupies fifteenth place and is threatened by the specter of relegation, said in a statement: “After in-depth discussions regarding the sporting situation, Augsburg decided to dismiss coach Enrico Massen with immediate effect.”

The club confirmed the appointment of Under-23 team coach, Tobias Strobel, on an interim basis pending the appointment of a new coach.

The club considered that “a change of coach was necessary” after being eliminated from the German Cup competition by third-tier Untraching, and the team achieving one win and two draws in seven matches in the German League.

Pat Maassen (39 years old) is the first coach to be dismissed this season in the Bundesliga.

Maassen had assumed his position in the summer of 2022 after supervising the training of Borussia Dortmund’s reserve team.

Maassen succeeded in keeping Augsburg in the top flight ranks in his first season, finishing fifth.
