The city of Pirmasens in Germany has stopped accepting Ukrainian refugees because of the excessive influx, reports Focus, citing local authorities. In the city, the rate of acceptance of Ukrainian refugees in July was above 82.6%. Because of this, the city suffered a “dangerous overload of urban society”.
At the same time, the authorities announced several conditions for entry – their own housing or activities that provide the necessary lifestyle. According to the city administration, since February 2022, almost 900 people from Ukraine have been admitted to Pirmasens.
In June, the European Union extended the special mechanism for accepting Ukrainian refugees until 2026. They receive temporary protection and have the same rights throughout the EU – they receive health and social support, access to education for children and to the labor market for adults.
According to Eurostat, by the end of April, 4.2 million refugees from Ukraine received temporary protection in EU countries.
A third of the refugees are in Germany – the country has accepted about 1.3 million Ukrainians. At the end of May, the German Ministry of the Interior proposed a uniform distribution of new refugees throughout the European Union. Earlier, from March, part of the German federal states advocated compulsory work for refugees. The authorities have again noticed that large benefits hinder employment, RBC recalls.
