Despite Brexit, London remains a popular place to work. Dealing with the corona crisis and the current vaccination process is having a negative impact on some labor markets.

London is the most popular destination for anyone looking to move abroad for their job. This is shown by a recent study by the Boston Consulting Group. Despite Brexit, around 18 percent of the more than 200,000 employees surveyed named the capital of the United Kingdom as the preferred location. Amsterdam ranks second – 15 percent of the survey participants would be willing to move to the capital of the Netherlands for their job.

The United Arab Emirates and Asian countries in particular have made significant gains in the ranking. Dubai has improved by three places to third, Abu Dhabi has even climbed nine places and is in fifth place behind Berlin. Tokyo and Singapore occupy ranks six and seven – just like Abu Dhabi, around eleven percent of those surveyed identified these cities as their preferred destination. As the Statista graphic shows, New York and Barcelona are the big losers in the city rankings. One reason for the decline of the two locations is the poor management of the corona crisis.

Interestingly, although Canada has the most attractive job market in the world, no Canadian city is in the top ten most popular locations. Toronto is the 14th most popular city in Canada.
