The German Evangelical Church will hold Christmas services and other events outdoors. This is due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting restrictions.

The church, which unites Lutheran and Reformed believers, could hold services in stadiums, market squares and open-air cinemas.

Many volunteers will be involved in the organization of the event and co-operation with firefighters and technicians will be ensured so that people can celebrate the holiday in safety. For example, in Cottbus, church representatives have been negotiating with local authorities for several weeks to hold a Christmas service at the city stadium.

In an interview, Heinrich Bedford-Strom, head of the Evangelical Church, also allowed the media to use other alternatives, including radio, television and Internet broadcasts, and family worship, while acknowledging that people’s desire to enjoy the festive atmosphere outside the home is very understandable.
