German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during a visit to a plant in the German city of Cottbus, refused to go out to the farmers organizing a strike. The German newspaper Bild reports this.
“Scholz refused to speak at the farmers’ demonstration in front of the carriage repair plant. His party friend Dietmar Woidke had to take on this part,” transmits edition. The enterprise was officially opened in the presence of the chancellor.
Hundreds of farmers protested against cuts in benefits for agricultural producers. The demonstrators timed the action to coincide with Scholz’s arrival. The German newspaper notes that the protesters tried to drown out the chancellor’s speech with noise. “The head of government looked tense,” the text clarifies.
One of the first strikes in Germany in 2024 arranged Train drivers dissatisfied with the level of wages. The protest is still ongoing and will only end on January 12. The Hesse Labor Court in Frankfurt am Main allowed the demonstration to take place.
