German Championship: Freiburg extends its coach’s contract

As Freiburg used to do during Streisch’s supervision, he did not announce the end date of the new contract, knowing that the extension in the past years between the two parties was limited to one year, as his new contract is expected to expire in 2024.

“It’s good that we still love coming into the office and maintaining an open and honest exchange,” said the 57-year-old.

He added, “The group here is exceptional, and it is interesting for me to continue working in this club with my fellow coaches.”

After playing for Freiburg, Streisch began his coaching career in 1995 with the age groups, before becoming coach of the first team in December 2011, making him the most steadfast coach in his position in the “Bundesliga”.

Streisch is currently living the most successful period in Freiburg’s history, as he led it to the final of the local cup competition for the first time in the 2021-2022 season (losing to Leipzig on penalties).

Freiburg also ranks fifth in the league this season, with 45 points, equal to Leipzig and Union Berlin in third and fourth places, respectively, and is still in the race to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in its history.

Freiburg is also still competing in the European arena in the European League, “Europa League”, by facing Juventus in the final price, despite its 1-0 stumbling in the first leg, before the return match at home on Thursday.

Streisch, who goes to training and matches on his bicycle, has rejected many offers from prominent clubs to stay with Freiburg, where he has become a popular figure in Germany.
