BERLIN – FC Cologne won on Sunday 3-1 in Berlin on the Hertha lawn, joining the peloton of Bundesliga teams fighting for European places.
With 28 points after 18 days, the Rhenish are in 6th position, just two lengths from fourth place, qualifying for the Champions League.
Frenchman Anthony Modeste opened the scoring for the visitors (29th), followed by Ondrej Duda (2-0, 32nd) and Jan Thielmann (3-1, 90th + 1). Vladimir Darida had reduced the score for Hertha (57th).
This away victory is the third in a row for Cologne. While the entire Bundesliga played this weekend behind closed doors for health reasons, the huge Olympic Stadium in Berlin was able to accommodate 3,000 spectators, thanks to a decision by the senate (city council) of the capital.
In the standings, Bayern Munich are still alone in the lead with 43 points, six units ahead of Borussia Dortmund (37 pts).
